Plot: Taking his cue from such 1970s horror classics as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) and The Hills Have Eyes (1977), animated rocker Rob Zombie goes celluloid with the throwback shocker House of 1000 Corpses. Running low on gas as they travel the highways of America in search of the ultimate roadside attraction, a group of teens pull into Captain Spaulding's (Sid Haig) museum of oddities (which also offers fried chicken and gasoline) only to become obsessed with uncovering the mystery of a legendary local maniac known only as Dr. Satan. When an attractive and mysterious hitchhiker subsequently offers to give the thrill seekers a personal tour of Dr. Satan's old stabbing grounds, a breakdown forces them to take refuge with a group of menacing oddballs as a fearsome storm rages outside. As the evening progresses and the backwoods hosts' Halloween festivities become ever more threatening, the teens soon realize that the legend of Dr. Satan may hold a bit more contemporary weight than any of them had previously thought. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Just Awful

It's a shame that an actress as talented as Karen Black had to reduce herself to performing in this crap. What's more, it is the cheapest ripoff of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre I have ever seen. Come on Rob, can't you be a little more creative?

I have seen a few of Zombie's movies, including the Halloween remake. He should really stick to making music and not boring us senseless with this nonsense.

An Original Horror Classic

House of 1000 Corpses has to be my favorite horror film to date. It has originality along with a cast of colorful and crazy characters. I am baffled by some of the negative reviews regarding this movie. People who didn't like it must be the soft, sensative type that only love cheesy horror movies like Hocus Pocus. This movie is not for the squeemish or faint hearted. It is very graphic and deals with a family of twisted killers in the 1970's who torture their victims in their rundown shack. It has a very dark circus freak/Pshycedelic feel to it that keeps you at the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. Don't let the negative reviews fool you, check this movie out and you be the judge for yourself.

Like the movie BUT

I enjoyed the DVD of this title very much.
Unlike many people I talk to, I thought it was a great ride.
BUT....I am guessing it wasn't Robs choice to remove the Sid Haig menu intro from the bluray version (which is probably the most talked about part of the film)
I recieved the bluray today and was very disappointed to see that his hilarious intro was removed from this version.
BUMMER!
