Plot: America's favorite teenage canine-led crime fighters earn a second shot at the big screen in this sequel to the hit comedy Scooby-Doo. The reunited Mystery Inc. team -- Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Velma (Linda Cardellini), Shaggy (Matthew Lillard), and Scooby-Doo (voice of Neil Fanning) -- return to their hometown of Coolsville as heroes when a local criminology museum offers an exhibition of the many ghostly disguises used by villains they've subdued over the years. However, their warm welcome is not long-lived; mean-spirited television reporter Heather Jasper-Howe (Alicia Silverstone) has aired a series of stories calling the team's intelligence and bravery into question, and even worse, a number of the weird creature costumes on display in the museum are coming to life and wrecking havoc on the people of Coolsville. Some of the clues seem to point to Old Man Wickles (Peter Boyle), whose attempts to pose as the Black Knight Ghost were foiled by the Mystery Machinists in the past, but is he looking for revenge or just a red herring? And what is Velma supposed to do about Patrick Wisely (Seth Green), a curator at the museum who's warm for her helmet-haired form? Scooby-Doo 2 also co-stars Tim Blake Nelson and features a cameo appearance from American Idol star Ruben Studdard. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

An Awesome Fun Ride!!!
Added 10/2/2009

I think this is a really good sequel, and possibly better than the original. I love how Velma tries to be sexy when she has a crush on Patrick Wisely, the curator of the Coolsonian Criminology Museum in Coolsville. The museum is opening the exhibation of costumes of all the bad guys that Mystery Inc. have unmasked, until the costumes become real monsters; such as Zombie, Miner '49er, Captain Cutler, and The Tar Monster. Shaggy and Scooby feel that they aren't important in the group because they always screw up, so they try to be better detectives. Will Mystery Inc. figure out who is bringing the monsters to life? I highly recommend SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED!!!

Will the real Scooby Doo movie please stand up?

This is the rare case when a sequel is better than the original. While the first live-action "Scooby Doo" had cute & funny moments, it seemed the writers/director were trying to make two different movies: One that paid homage to the traditional cartoon while another attempted to satirize those same cartoons. The result was a cute but convoluted mish-mash.
Weaving Mystery, Inc. into a familiar plot which an opening to a museum honoring all their great mystery-solving monsters & ghosts are moth-balled, a mysterious masked evil figure strives to dis-credit the famous hipsters. The story succeeds in re-connecting Mystery, Inc. to all the famous "phonies" they unmasked in the original cartoons, such as the Black Knight, the Tar Blob, Miner Forty-Niner, and Blackbeard's Ghost---which all inexplicably come back to life to menace them & the city.
While the cast from the first film return--and do terrific (again)in their roles--the real standout is Matthew Lillard who sinks his teeth into the fun role of whisker-chinned, bell-bottom wearing Shaggy Rogers. It's as if he's channeling the essence of the original cartoon character! Alicia Silverstone has a supporting role as a beautiful but pesky reporter always catching the gang at their worst, and the late Peter Boyle has some amusing moments as the disgruntled original Black Knight unmasked by the gang. Last but not least is the digital creation of Scooby Doo himself, capturing the sweetly goofy & cowering mutt we all know & love.
Lots of fun from start to finish...and I've heard there's a direct-to-video sequel coming!

GREAT, FUN MOVIE!
Added 6/19/2009

I have to say I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the first SCOOBY-DOO movie! Just like Freddie Prinze Jr, who plays Fred in the films and is a big Scooby fan, the first film was more than I expected from a Scooby film, and then some. It was funny, scary, the story had a few plot twists that caught you by surprise, the production quality was great, the characters were brought to life exceptionally well by every actor... I could go on and on.

In this sequel, everything is done even better. The production quality (the sets, the costumes, the colors, the monsters) is larger than life. You can really tell they put a lot of effort to make this movie feel right like in the Scooby cartoons universe.

The characters personalities and their relationships and place in the group are explored even further. If the first film brought these characters to life, this one really makes you feel for each member of Mystery Inc. They grew a lot in the first one, but they mature in different aspects in this one.

The movie is even zanier and wackier than the first, yet it has its touching moments of character growth, sometimes it even feels like a little romantic comedy wrapped up in a hilarious (sometimes spooky) cartoonish environment. They did really well in giving a positive message of finding your true self and staying true to it, which I think is a plus, since you feel like you learned something good while having fun. That's sometimes hard to see when they bring cartoon characters to life, but they managed to do an excellent job in this film, in every aspect.

Every Scooby fan will just love it, its the cartoon brought to life and made even better. You'll watch it again and again.

It's nice that they made this film more family and kids friendly than the previous film, which was a bit darker and scary and the comedy sometimes was a tad more adult. Personally, I loved Scooby Doo 2, but I would've loved it also if they kept the darker and more adult feel of the previous one. I'm really a kid at heart, but I liked it when they appealed to older audiences in SCOOBY DOO 1. Overall, I think both movies have a different feel and they balance each other well. Its great that the producers managed to develop different aspects from the cartoon series in both films and they really strived for them to be fun, meaningful movies. You don't simply feel like you've seen a simple live action version of a cartoon; you manage to care for the characters and learn from them. Excellent work!

In a nutshell, if you like Scooby-Doo, if you like fun movies and want also to feel like you learned something from cartoon characters, buy both of these films!
