Plot: Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn star in this stylish comedy-thriller directed by Stanley Donen, very much in a Hitchcock vein. Grant plays Peter Joshua, who meets Reggie Lampert (Hepburn) in Paris and later offers to help her when she discovers that her husband has been murdered. After the funeral, Reggie is summoned to the embassy and warned by agent/friend Bartholemew (Walter Matthau) that her late husband helped steal 250,000 dollars during the war and that the rest of the gang is after the money as well. When three of the men who attended her husband's funeral begin to harass her, Reggie goes to Joshua for help, at which time Joshua confesses that his name is actually Alexander Dyle, the brother of a fourth accomplice in the gold theft. The three men from the funeral are revealed to be the three other accomplices in the crime, and though she knows next to nothing of the heist, Reggie is caught in a ring of suspense as she is followed by the shadowy trio, all after the money. Apparently, the only person she can trust is Joshua/Dyle -- until Bartholomew tells Reggie that the fourth accomplice had no brother, and Joshua/Dyle reveals that he is, in fact, a crook named Adam Canfield. Now Reggie doesn't know where to turn. The musical score by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini was nominated for an Academy Award. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

I love this movie but the copy I received was warped or something because the sound kept fading in and out. I was continually increasing and decreasing the sound so we could hear it.
I was disappointed with the DVD because of the problem with the sound.

Cary Grant adds one more dimension to his legend
Added 10/12/2009

Cary Grant made a career out of making screwball comedies. Among his greatest comedies are His Girl Friday (COLLECTOR'S EDITION) 1940 and Topper / Topper Returns (Enhanced) 1941. If you are a fan of Cary Grant that I am sure that you own those 2 already.

Charade is a last ditch effort by Grant I think to add one more dimension to his legacy and to go out on a high note. Most of his films have won awards for one thing or another. Charade is a film that has amazing leads with Audrey Hepburn as Regina with a screenplay written by legend Peter Stone. The chemistry is amazing and the supporting cast of Walter Mattau, James Coburn & George Kennedy round out and balance this flick.

Who Do You Trust? Who is Out to Get You?
Added 10/12/2009

A woman is divorced by her husband, who takes everything that once belonged to both of them. So empty had her marriage been that she has no idea what he was involved in. When he is murdered, and thrown off a train, she knows almost no details about his life that she can tell police investigators. It turns out that he had $250,000 (then a huge sum of money) and that some other men are after it. Her life is in danger.

The plot has many twists and turns. She has no idea where the $250,000 is, and the identity of the wealth turns out to be unexpected and simple. Various men who think she has the money come and threaten her life. A benefactor shows up who promises to defend her. But he keeps changing his name, and is caught lying. She begins to suspect that he is just one of the men out to defraud her, or worse. But she is also falling in love with him. Who should she believe? To whom should she turn for help? She cannot evade her pursuers. And so it goes...

The last GREAT Cary Grant film
Added 10/6/2009

Cary Grant kind of petered out toward the end of his career but this film made the Top 250 on IMDB so I had to watch it as part of my quest to become a true movie buff. The plot of the movie is simple...five men stole a bunch of money from the U.S. Goverment that they were supposed to deliver to the French Resistance during WWII. Audrey Hepburn as the lead female is perfect for this role. Her husband is one of the men who stole the money and after she returns from a vacation, she learns he has been killed and all of their posessions have been sold. Grant's character, who changes his name every 15 minutes, is there to help her pick up the pieces with an alterior motive to find the money.

With twists and turns at every corner and the combination of Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, Charade was definately worth watching. Walther Matthau and James Coburn also make appearances in great supporting roles as two of the other men that were part of the caper. A classic who can you trust mixed with comedy. I would have given it 5 stars if it was a film that I wanted to watch all the time. Even though it is a great movie, it is one of those that I have only watched one time since I got it and will probably only watch once a year if that...

Interesting.

Good movie, not slow like Alfred Hitchcock's are. They do show a quick scene when one of the people get's killed. the first time watching it's good.
