Plot: In this satirical sci-fi comedy, Samantha (Kelli Maroney) and Regina (Catherine Mary Stewart) are two sisters whose father was a hard-bitten Green Beret, but who've grown into typical Valley Girls. They end up spending the night in a steel-lined room just as a comet passes close to the earth, vaporizing the people in its wake. When Samantha and Regina emerge, they discover that they have the city to themselves, and they begin the shopping spree to end all shopping sprees. En route to the mall, they discover Hector (Robert Beltran), the only survivor they've found so far, and they argue over who gets the last boyfriend on Earth. However, the mall holds an unpleasant surprise -- a small army of zombified stockboys who the gals must battle using an arsenal they shoplifted along the way (while lamenting that Daddy would have gotten us Uzis! after a MAC-10 fails to fire). Meanwhile, a cadre of soldiers from a special military experiment have come out of hiding, but it seems that they need fresh blood to survive, and Samantha and Regina look like just the refreshment they need. Cult figure Mary Woronov also appears in a supporting role as a scientist. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Still great after 20 years
Added 11/14/2009

I had this movie on VHS for years and years and it was one of those films that I just never got sick of. And then when dvd's came out, I eventually threw it away thinking 'I'll go and get it on dvd now'... and off course it hadn't been released on dvd. So this was a great find for me - and is still just as enjoyable today as it was 20 odd years ago. A great movie, a great adventure, fabulous for the kids and the special effects were cutting edge at the time and still hold up today. The special features on this special edition are fanastic too - educational as well as interesting.

10 out of 10 from me!

The Last Star Fighter - 2th Anniversary edition

The Movie itself was exactly the same as the original - your probably saying well duh. I was expecting to see Will Wheaton in this version, but to no avail. I was kind of expecting to see some deleted scenes restored to no avail. All that was there was how the movie was made in 3 or 4 different ways. Not what I was looking for. But still a nice addition to my movie collection.

Great 80's era movie!
Added 10/5/2009

Watching this movie is great, if for no other reason to remember back when analog 15" CRT monitors and 400 baud modems were considered cutting edge.

Movies like this and Wargames also remind me how, even as recently as the 80s, you can have a fun movie that didn't involve hyper-sexualized teens dressed like Megan Fox in Transformers. Rather, you have a plot driven movie that played on the kind of innocent wonder back in the day about how technology would change people's lives and lead to a new future.

The CGI used in the film looks exceedingly dated, but I remember when this film and Tron came out, I thought it was cool as heck. Admittedly, some parts of the movie are a bit cheesy, but if you can ignore that this movie is a great example of an 80's sci fi classic.

Cheerleaders and zombies
Added 9/5/2009

Night of the Comet is a great piece of 80's sci-fi noir. How can you go wrong with "Mags" from The Last Starfighter and the cheerleader from Fast Times at Ridgemount High toting machine guns and fighting zombies? There's enough of a plot and a dose of suspense to keep you interested, while the gags and subtle, well placed jokes remind you that there's a tongue in cheek thing going on here. By the way, Spielberg probably ripped off the whole bodies turning to dust and leaving behind the clothes idea, used in this movie, in his version of War of the Worlds. (Not knocking Steven, those effects were killer.) This movie has been hard to find, glad it was finally released on DVD.

You Gotta Luv It
Added 8/1/2009

It's Hokey & Badly Acted for the most part but it screams Bad Old Science Fiction Horror from the 50's and anyone that's seen those films, knows what I mean.
I really Enjoyed it.
