Espionage thriller from the USSR's final days

In the HBO film RED KING, WHITE KNIGHT, Tom Skerritt is Stoner, an ex-CIA agent brought out of retirement and sent to the USSR to investigate a plot to assassinate the General Secretary at a public ceremony in a Soviet satellite country. Szaz, his KGB counterpart (Max von Sydow) disobeys orders to kill Stoner and teams up with him instead. Stoner's personal life gets complicated when old girlfriend Anna (Helen Mirren) resurfaces.
Stoner is unable to report back to his superiors that the threat is real, nor can he convince Anna to leave Europe with him. Meanwhile, American decision makers debate whether to inform the Soviets of their leader's peril.
As of 4/09, "Red King, White Knight" was not available on DVD.
