The Benchwarmers Blu-ray [Steve Sap Review]
Added 9/27/2009
If you really want to laugh then this is the movie to get. With it's high definition upgrade and the humor from the Happy Madison family you can't go wrong.
Pros: Good Movie, Great Visuals, Great Audio
Cons: Extras not in High Def and not really packed with anything special

Maybe it was because I went into this movie not expecting much, that I found myself laughing hysterically. I am not saying that the humor in this movie is for everyone, but possibly for most. The only flaw that I saw in the movie was Jon Lovitz who just pushed things a little to far that I thought that what may have been funny I found ridiculous. I think this would make a great movie for anyone who likes comedy and doesn't take things so seriously. If that is the case you will love this movie!

Nerds vs. Bullies?
Added 5/17/2009
Dennis Dugan's The Benchwarmers is one of those movies that never really lives up to its hype. The story of three adult nerds who take on the local bullies in order to open up the sport of baseball to everyone is a little farfetched but this is comedy.
The three nerds Ritchie (David Spade), Clark (Jon Heder) and Gus (Rob Schneider) come across some local bullies picking on the son of local millionaire, Mel (Jon Lovitz) and decide to take take the bullies on in a game of pickup baseball. After winning the game the three decide to take on the cause for nerds everywhere and start tournament with the grand prize being a new stadium. For the next 90 minutes we get a mix of Revenge of the Nerds meets Big League and the mixture doesn't always work.
We get all the usual bodily function jokes and goofiness but there is just not a lot holding the film together. Look for a cameo appearance by Reggie Jackson and some decent work by Gus' smoking hot wife Liz (Molly Sims) and TV host Craig Kilborn as bad guy Jerry.
The standand definition disc featured good image and sound quality along with four featurettes, some deleted scenes, a funny easter egg starring Lovitz, and two commentaries (one with Dudan , the other with Spade and Heder).
Unfortunately this film never found its audience. It was just too dumb for most adults and not accessible enough for really young children.
