Plot: Based on the characters from the series of best-selling books by Ann M. Martin, The Baby Sitters Club concerns a group of seven girls, each edging into their teenage years, who are close friends and have formed a co-operative baby-sitting service. Their business has become so successful that the girls decide to expand their horizons and start a summer day camp for kids; however, they soon discover that not all the adults in the neighborhood think this is a good idea, and they learn a lesson about cooperation and responsibility. Meanwhile, Kristy (Schuyler Fisk), the leader of the group, lives with her mother (Brooke Adams) and stepfather (Bruce Davison); when her father (Peter Horton), an undependable wanderer, shows up, he asks Kristy not to tell her mother that he's in town, and Kristy is torn about what to say. Stacy (Bre Blair) has another sort of dilemma to deal with; she's tall and pretty and has met a boy who likes her. However, he thinks she's older than she actually is, leading her into a dating dilemma that she may not be ready for. The Baby Sitters Club was the first theatrical feature for actress-turned-director Melanie Mayron; Schuyler Fisk is the daughter of actress Sissy Spacek and director/designer Jack Fisk. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

This is one the worst movies I have ever seen. I think Melanie Mayron should be held liable and forbidden to direct ever again

Great Motivational Movie for kids
Added 8/29/2008

This movie is a wonderful motivator for kids. It helps them realize they can work and make money. It has a great morals sprinkled throughout as well and teaches them how to handle life's emotional situations. I would recommend it for kids or preteens.

Throughout Elementary school, I've seen various BSC books strewn about in my school Library and classroom bookshelf. As a boy, I've always viewed the books as nothing but just little girls' novels, and so I tended to avoid the books as much as possible lol. I was about 7 years old when this movie came out, and at that time, the commercials were all over the air waves non-stop. Eventually, after seeing the commercials a billion times a week, I for some reason developed a small interest in wanting to watch the film. Some of my friends who saw the movie said they loved it, so I decided to wait until they started showing it on TV, which it has been on many times but I just never got a chance to catch it. So I gave up trying to watch it for about 12 years, and I totally forgot all about the movie. Now I finally got the chance to watch the film on HBO Family yesterday, and I actually liked it! Although I was never a BSC reader, I thought the movie was good. Though I think the movie would've appealed to me more if I was a kid, so I'll always remember the Baby Sitter's Club as "the movie I should have watched when I was a kid."

Childhood Memories
Added 7/24/2007

I never saw the film in theaters but I got it as soon as it came out on VHS. My little sister has it now because I guess I outgrew it. Anyway I saw it when it was playing on Dish Network. I watched it everyday when I was 9 but now that Im older it is kind of cheesy but I still enjoy it because it takes me back to those childhood memories. It has some adorable characters but I wish they would have focused more on Jessie and Mallory. I liked the books better but if you enjoyed it as a kid you would enjoy it now. Otherwise I would suggest buying it for your daughter because it is a great kid's film.

Hey, it's just as great now as it was then...

I bought this movie for a blast from my past...and I wasn't let down! Although the acting, at times, is horrible, the girls are all adorable, and it took me right back to sixth grade again. I don't really like the girl that plays Kristy, but I do love the Stacey character, along with Larissa Olyneck's (sp?) character.

Unless you loved this movie as a child, or your daughter is a fan of the book series, I wouldn't recommend this movie. But if you do have a daughter, and you're looking for a good movie that is still appropriate for her, I would definitely recommend it! The plot deals with lots of issues of teen girls, and no matter who you are, you can relate to one of the girls.

I still enjoy watching the movie after all these years, and hopefully one day I can pass on the books and this movie to my daughter!
