Freak-out at the Funhouse.....................
Added 7/24/2009
It may not be as good as TCM. But It's definite better then Halloween. This movie has a creepy feel to it. Teen kids decide to spend the night in the funhouse. One kid get stupid then all hell brakes loose. This movie has suspense, good acting. and fx plus Elizabeth Berridge bare breast. Most reviewers compare Tob Hooper's films to TCM. Well Funhouse may not have as munch gore as TCM. But it still a fun movie to watch.

A trip down memory lane
Added 2/22/2009
I first discovered this gem back in the summer of 1982 on cable tv. I never liked bloody horror movies but I didn't mind if they were spooky. Thankfully for me the movie is very scary with the violence & bloodshed kept to a minimum. What attracted me to this film was the funhouse itself. I grew up during the 1970's when a carnival funhouse was still spooky & the ride lasted about 10 minutes for a quarter. Those were the days! Of course all the other carnival rides & games & shows were awesome too! They are today. But the carnival funhouse seems to be fading into the past. Carnivals don't come to our town much today. The ones that do are rather small with no funhouse. And sometimes at the larger state & county fairs we may see one funhouse on the Midway. All we get is a 5 minute ride down a dark corridor with no scary monsters at all! Such is not the case with this movie. The plot centers around 4 teens who visit a local carnival for a night of fun. One of them suggests camping out in the funhouse overnight. And the terror begins! About an hour into their stay they witness a murder & decide to get the hell out! No such luck! Every possible exit is locked! To make matters worse the carnival owner has discovered them! One of the teens even found the day's profits & intended to steal them! One by one all of them are murdered until only one finally manages to escape from the funhouse. This movie is very entertaining & unique.Enjoy!

The Funhouse DVD
Added 1/30/2009
If you have read "The Funhouse" by Dean Koontz, then please don't waste your time on the movie. I was disappointed in the movie. There is nothing leading to plot. The entire movie is just the funhouse and is predictible. The book took longer but was a lot better than the movie. Will read the book again, won't bother with the movie. I spent money on another dust collector and wasted an hour and a half of my life.

The Funhouse of a 1,000 Corpses
Added 1/29/2009
Tobe Hooper remains one of the best and most influential horror directors at creating a growing sense of dread. I think it's safe to say that Rob Zombie was influenced by Hooper when he made his directorial debut House of a 1,000 Corpses. That film and The Funhouse have some similar situations making them a good choice for a horror double feature to see what works in both films. Two couples, none of whom distinguish themselves or are even that likable, brush off their parent's warnings and head to their local carnival for a night of naughty thrills. They smoke a little grass, sneak into a peep show, and do some heavy making out. They see the usual sights : a fortune teller, a creepy barker, deformed animals, a creepy fetus, a magician, and a spooky ride called the Funhouse where something in a Frankenstein mask pushes the carts that the kids ride in. One of the teens gets the idea that they should all spend the night in the abandoned Funhouse. They figure that after everyone has left for the night they will have more privacy. What they don't count on is that not only are they not alone in the Funhouse but that they will be running for their lives after they witness the murder of the fortune teller by the thing in the Frankenstein mask. Before the kids can attempt to leave they are spotted by the barker who promises not to hurt them if they come out. If they don't show themselves he will send the monster after them. The makeup on the monster is quite gross with its sharp jagged teeth and thick strand of drool hanging from his mouth. He looks like a cross between the Crypt keeper and the Elephant Man. The barker is actually his father who is ashamed of him and makes him kill to deal with his shame. Hooper is exploring some of the same themes of twisted families that kill like he did in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. One by one the kids are picked off until one is left standing to go toe to toe with the monster. The film looks great and is fun to watch despite a predictable story and a bland group of main characters. This film was hugely disappointing to me because the great William Finley stars as Marco the Magnificent the magician who the kids go and see. Well he was such a good magician that he disappeared after only one scene. If you like this film I suggest you check out Hooper's Eaten Alive also with Finley and Chainsaw's Marilyn Burns. It has the same grainy look and is a pretty good film that I think is better than this one.
