Plot: Though the original Fletch was drubbed by critics, it proved a major success for star Chevy Chase. It was inevitable, then, that a sequel would make an appearance. Surprisingly, Fletch Lives didn't come out until 1989--a full five years after the original. Once more, Chase stars as Irwin Maurice Fletch Fletcher, the gonzo investigative reporter created by novelist Gregory McDonald. Indulging his penchant for disguises and bizarre aliases, Fletch investigates a deep dark mystery at a crumbling Southern plantation. Various friends and enemies are portrayed con brio by Hal Holbrook, Cleavon Little, Juliane Phillips, Randall Tex Cobb, Richard Libertini and Richard Belzer (Chase's cohort from the old Groove Tube days). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Stupid love!

What a silly movie! Of course, it's Chevy Chase. I saw it years and years ago and no one I know has ever heard of it. But it always makes me smile when I see it. So it's a good pick-me-up movie. I love seeing the snow too. This was especially true when living in places that didn't have snow. It's a classic! Pick it up!

This movie was lightyears beyond its time I saw it on tbs and thought that it was a new made for tv movie. I geuss the joke was on me though. when i found out it was made in 88' I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't in heaven and I wasn't.

Where is the Criterion Brothers Version???

This gem is not yet remastered?? I have seen this movie more times than A Christmas Story and Willy Wonka. No remastering, commentaries or extras. What a shame this is an 80's classic up there with The 'Burbs, Weird Science and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

One of the most witty, charming and funny movies of all time and Madolyn Smith was a super hottie.

I got this movie because I'm a fan of Chevy Chase. It has his usual Chevy Comedy in it,if that's what your looking for.

Classic Chevy Chase

Great movie. Fun for the whole family. Classic Chevy Chase physical humor, without the vulgarity of a Ben Stiller movie.

Chevy at his best!

Chevy Chase is great in both of the Fletch movies. They are so dumb and corny that you can't help but laugh!

You know what they say about sequels

Luckily they avoid completely revisiting old ground by setting this one in the South. It contains quite a few gags but the laughs are fewer and far between. It has a more serious look at some time honoured cliches about the South (evangelism, racism, quaintness) which may be less fair as time goes on, but as they say cliches exist for a reason. Chevy Chase's swansong and the last passable effort of his career - unless you want to count Memoirs of an Invisible Man. Buy the double CD with Fletch or else skip this one.

Having said this, I have fond memories of this film. But don't expect high art. The comedy is passable and dry.
