Plot: The nature-nurture theory that motivated so many Three Stooges comedies is the basis of John Landis's hit comedy. The fabulously wealthy but morally bankrupt Duke brothers (Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche) make a one-dollar bet over heredity vs. environment. Curious as to what might happen if different lifestyles were reversed, they arrange for impoverished street hustler Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy) to be placed in the lap of luxury and trained for a cushy career in commodities brokerage. Simultaneously, they set about to reduce aristocratic yuppie Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Aykroyd to poverty and disgrace, hiring a prostitute (Jamie Lee Curtis) to hasten his downfall. When Billy Ray figures out that the brothers intend to dump him back on the streets once their experiment is complete, he seeks out Winthorpe, and together the pauper-turned-prince and prince-turned-pauper plot an uproarious revenge. With the good-hearted prostitute and Winthorpe's faithful butler (Denholm Elliott) as their accomplices, they set about to hit the brothers where it really hurts: in the pocketbook. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Movie that inspired me to learn trading
Added 2/8/2010

Three things influenced my financial life in the 80's and lead me to trading.

1) The movie Trading Places
2) The movie Wallstreet
3) "How to make $1,000,000 in the Stock Market Automatically" by Robert Lichello

It is because of these 3 items that when I grew up, I traded; first stocks, then commodities, then options, then taught options trading; then traded Forex; then taught Forex.

This movie, is probably my all-time favorite movie. I believe this is an inspirational movie; and unlike the movies of today, this thing has it all; plot, good guys, bad guys, and no Ben Affleck.

If you've never seen this movie, you've never lived. Three Thumbs Up!

An 80s Classic
Added 2/6/2010

Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis at their best. I love also that in Eddie's next movie 'Coming To America' they had the two rich old dudes in the movie. 80s classic. Giving the movie 4 out of 5 cuz I prefer it in full screen format and the original movie cover.

Blu Ray Looking Good Edition
Added 2/4/2010

This is one of my favorite movies ever! The transfer to Blu Ray was done very well, much better than on DVD. I recommed this to anyone that loves 80's comedies.

Trading Places

Louis Winthorpe III is a successful Philadelphia commodity broker with mansion, manservant and girlfriend to match. Billy Ray Valentine is a hustling beggar. Winthorpe's employers, the elderly Duke brothers, make a bet that by switching the lifestyle of the two Billy Ray will make good and their man will take to a life of crime. Suddenly Louis finds himself uncomprehendingly with no job, no home and only a new acquaintance, glamorous hooker Ophelia, prepared to help him. So at least in one way things could actually be worse. Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy make a thoroughly wonderful team in this movie. A truly great hilarious comedy masterpiece and classic.
