Plot: While John Carpenter's 1978 horror classic Halloween irrevocably changed the style of horror cinema with its simple but relentlessly tense story, it triggered more than a decade's worth of uninspired, exploitative knock-offs, and one could easily list Halloween II among these failures. As with its predecessor, this film was written and produced by Carpenter and Debra Hill, but the terse style and unbearable suspense of the first film are missing, replaced by a more simplistic stalk-and-slash scenario. Directorial duties were handed over to Rick Rosenthal, whose lack of expertise is quite evident (though he managed to hit his stride two years later with the prison actioner Bad Boys). The plot picks up exactly where the original left off: Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), shaken and injured from her battle with unkillable psycho Michael Myers, is taken to the Haddonfield Hospital for observation, while Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) continues his desperate search for his monstrous patient. An interesting plot twist has Loomis' investigations revealing Michael's true identity (some of these sequences incorporate footage of young Michael originally shot for the television version of Halloween, which contained scenes hinting at the link between Michael and Laurie). After slashing his way through the town, Myers manages to track Laurie to the hospital, where the remainder of the action takes place. Numerous night-shift employees are slaughtered in a variety of gruesome ways before Loomis catches up with his quarry, leading to an explosive -- and seemingly conclusive -- confrontation. Pleasence is compelling as usual, but Curtis, who made an auspicious debut in the original, is sadly wasted here, her character reduced to shuffling half-drugged through darkened hospital corridors and screaming helplessly. Carpenter's active involvement in the Halloween franchise continued to dwindle steadily from one sequel to the next, getting scarcely a mention by the time producers Hill, Moustapha Akkad and Irwin Yablans revived the series in 1988 for three more sequels. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

Halloween II
Added 1/30/2010

Michael Myers is still at large and no less dangerous than ever. After a failed reunion to reach his baby sister at their old home, Laurie Strode is immediately taken to a hospital to be treated by the wounds that had been afflicted by her brother a few hours ago. However, Michael isn't too far off and will continue his murdering 'Halloween' rampage until he gets his sister all to himself. Zombie's interest in character interaction and moral ambiguity gives "Halloween II" a depth that, for those with the stomach to take it, is downright refreshing.

The only good Halloween Sequel

This sequel is fantastic as far as most movie sequels come. I really liked how the film started directly after the first which made for good back to back viewing. The acting is still great, Donald Pleasence still is fantastic and also is Jamie Lee Curtis. Michael Myers is also quite good in the film. He is a great stalker and adds alot of suspense when needed. The one thing I didn't like about it was the amount of blood. I don't like excessive blood in movies and thats why I liked the first movie so much. I also didn't like how Michael killed people in a variety of ways instead of just using his knife and his own hands.

I really liked the first Halloween and I also enjoyed Halloween 2. I did have one major problem. This should have been the only sequel to Halloween. You see Micheal burn to death and you are sure Dr. Loomis blew up in the explosion. They just wanted to maake all of the other sequels for money. I just pretend all of the other halloween movies don't exist and thats why I only own Halloween 2.

If you liked the first film, I suggest getting this one, but don't get any of the other sequels.

Hands down both Halloween 1 and 2 where the very best of the series. I have seen both many, many times and still can't get enough.

excellent sequel that deserves a blu ray release

This was a big hit at the time and the reason for it was that it was a direct sequel of the first with the two main cast members Donald Pleasance and Jamie lee curtis continuing the story. In this one Michael is still killing off everyone around his sister to terrorize her, before he finally finishes her off. But she of course is trying to survive and so it goes. The dvd is well done but a blu ray release is needed with perhaps halloween 3 as a bonus movie on it. This is great horror and well worth seeing ONLY after you see the original Halloween.

Halloween Parts 1 And 2, Are Definitive Horror Movie Classics,It is disturbing yes, Disturbing as you would see On any night of News Coverage on Television,or as Disturbing as People's everyday Declining Morals,But the movie is What Horror Movies Should be, Not meant to Glamorize Crime, but that there is Evil In the World sadly. This movie is not the typical Gore Zombie Movie,But it will creep you out!Not to mention the Eerie track!Donald Pleasence is awesome as is a Beautiful Jamie Lee Curtis Before she ruined her hair!and Unlike Part 3(WHY!??) Part 2 Is a Great Sequel, which is rare, given that Sometimes Sequels are horrible.
