Plot: Untimely ripped from the land of the living by a stray piece of bathroom porcelain from the MIR space station, teenaged girl George Lass (Ellen Muth) joins several other disgruntled decedents in pursuing her heavenly job of reaper, helping ordinary mortals pass from this life to the next with comfort and dignity in the first season of Dead Like Me. In many of the early episodes, George eavesdrops to see how her highly dysfunctional family is bearing up under the weight of losing her. Otherwise, she is hard at work fulfilling the assignments given her by her celestial supervisor, Rube (Mandy Patinkin). In the opening two-hour episode, the newly dead George is told that she has been chosen to be a reaper -- and also learns to her chagrin that, in death, she has become famous as The Toilet Seat Girl. Later on, she tries to wriggle out of her reaper duties, only to discover that if she doesn't follow the rules, dire consequences will befall those who are about to die. Also, she finds out that she still has certain mortal emotions intact when she becomes close to a fellow reaper named Betty (Rebecca Gayheart), and when she falls in love with a living schizophrenic whose disease allows him to see her even though he's not due yet. Additionally, she must suffer the intrusion of obstreperous new reaper Daisy Adair (Laura Harris), who is briefly her roommate. Finally, she is made aware that a reaper's job is never done when, on a day that no one dies, she is swamped with heavenly paperwork. At end of the first season, George finds herself on the verge of losing her office day job at Happy Time Temp Agency. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

All Around Awesome

I have to admit that the first time I heard about this tv show I was a little worried. It was as show about an eighteen year old girl, that gets killed by a toilet seat? WHAT? I gave the show a chance, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I ended up LOVING the show. It's filled with dark humor and gets you wondering about various things in your life (or at least it did for me...).
The main story line is about George, an eighteen yr old who dropped out of college, and gets killed by a toilet seat from a de-orbiting space station. After dying she meets Rube, to fills her in that she is going to become a grim reaper, taking souls from people who are about to die violent deaths. The show follows George as she tried to deal with her death, the trouble that is happening with her sister, and parents, and her new job. Needless to say she has her hands full.
The show is well cast with Ellen Muth playing George, the main character that gets killed by the toilet seat, Mandy Patinkin playing Rube, the boss of the reapers, Callum Blue playing Mason, the British drug user and alcoholic, Jasmine Guy playing Roxy, the temperamental meter maid who likes keeping people in line, and Laura Harris who plays Daisy, a bubbly "actress", that seems to have slept with all the classic film stars.
Overall I have to say that I have just started the whole "Dead Like Me" series a few days ago, and I couldn't stop watching it. I'm already on season two! If you like dark comedy then you will love this show!

love- dead like me

The only disappointing thing about the "Dead Like Me" is that it had to come to an end. I love the irreverent and slightly dark humor. It is wonderful to watch a show that is truly funny without being dirty or stupid.

Death can be funny...

Death can be funny and inteligent and... can put you to think about your own life. And that's great. So, you have here a wonderful show, not funny all the time but extremely well done, with an extraordinary plot.
Shame it was only 2 seasons, but, on second thought, that is good because they haven't had the time to ruin it.
If you want well written televisison, this is for you.

Yes, after a year in storage i decide to watch Dead Like Me. If if not
good...straight to the garbage they go....

A good decision. Im very picky on what a watch. I was very pleased with
both seasons. Casting was great as all characters are very pleasant and
great to watch. Great storyline, and every episode is like a little movie...they stand by themselves.

I always tried to figure out how they could make fun to watch with
death as a subject....hey they did it....thats good writting.

Ok, so after 2 seasons, the network cancelled it ....bad decision.
And now there is a movie out...but without some of the characters that
i got used to it....it probably wont work

Like i said...the networks are really really making bad decisions these
years, cancelled a lot of good stuff.
Too bad the public cant fire some of these near sighted money people.

Enjoy...this is good televison stuff.
