The annual day trip to Boulogne, France, for the darts team of ‘The Hand and Flower’ has life-altering ramifications for its members. Jim and Vera are a couple who keep arguing, Mr Robinson is a well-mannered widower, Shorty is exactly that, and Stan Harvey is the local smuggler. On arrival in Boulogne the party splits up and each sets off in search of a little slice of their own version of happiness. For Jim, this takes the form of Martine, a French woman he knew during the war, for Vera it is an American soldier and for Stan it is a dartboard filled with stolen watches!
