Hollywood’s darling Vivien Leigh stars as one of the great fictional heroines - Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina - in this masterful adaptation of the novel. Anna’s tragic story centres on her and her relationships with two men. Alexei Vronsky is a handsome army officer whom Anna’s sister loves and hopes to marry. Vronsky, however, is captivated by Anna, who does not want to disrupt her sister’s romance. With a distant husband, she finally succumbs to Vronsky’s charms and they embark on an affair. When her husband finds out, he threatens to divorce her which would lead to her losing the right to keep her son. She must make a difficult decision that still may not bring her happiness.
