What looks like a typical crimez-n-the-hood tale is actually a modern British mobster melodrama (original title: EVERYBODY LOVES SUNSHINE). Note Bowie prominent in the ensemble as an old-school fruit gangster, but the real star is the more contemporary UK music club sensation Goldie. Using his mouthful of gold-capped teeth to grotesque advantage, he plays Terry, a creepy druglord released from prison along with his handsome cellmate and cousin Leon (writer-director Goth). Leon intends to go straight and become a legit hip-hop musician, but volatile Terry, homoerotically fixated on Leon, starts a gang war with Asian competitors and commits gruesome murders just to draw Leon back into thug life. Goldie gives a fine performance as a fascinatingly repellent character, and Goth directsto a music-video beat.
