In Vertigo, David Blaine's hour-long special which aired May 22, 2002, Blaine is lifted by a crane onto a 100-foot tall, 22-inch wide pillar in New York City’s Bryant Park. He wears no harness and has no safety net to protect him from the concrete below. After standing on the pillar for 36 hours, Blaine ends the feat by jumping off in front of 50,000 live spectators (including Howard Stern and the late Christopher Reeves), and landing on a layer of cardboard boxes. This death-defying stunt, has only been accomplished by Blaine to this day. This special also includes clips of his renowned close-up magic performances, such as refilling and resealing a crushed, empty beer can with beer by just tapping it with his fingertips. Blaine also reaches his arm through a jewelry store’s glass window and grabs a watch from the display case without breaking the glass.
