Discover
Maria, a young woman living nearly destitute in Naples, must find medicine for her ailing mother. Desperate, she steals the medication and becomes a fugitive from the law. She joins a travelling carnival and soon falls in love with a portrait painter, Angelo. But the police catch up with Maria, leaving her in prison and Angelo deep in depression.
