Murdoch Troon (Stanley Baxter) is a cyclist forced off the road by a large car belonging to a wealthy tycoon. Angry at this, Troon follows him home, only to fall in love with the businessman’s beautiful daughter, Claire (Julie Christie). Her passion is cars, so Troon decides to invest in a vintage Bentley - ‘The Fast Lady’. The main obstacle is his lack of a driving licence, and it is in his pursuit of this, the girl and some bankrobbers that the film reaches its climax, speeding along in ‘The Fast Lady’ itself.
