Robert Donat (star of Hitchcock’s The Thirty Nine Steps amongst other well-known films) plays two roles in this celebrated comedy. First he plays Donald Glourie, the impoverished owner of a castle, who shares his home with Murdoch Glourie (also played by Donat), an eighteenth-century ghost condemned to haunt the castle until he can avenge his death. When Donald is forced to sell the castle to a wealthy American and it is rebuilt in Florida brick by brick, the new owner is surprised to find that the ghost has reluctantly come with it.
