Boke (Harold Keel) and Jim (David Greene) are escaped convicts, a pair on the run and trying to stay free. But they get into a devastating car crash, which catches the attention of writer Murray Byrne (James Donald) and his wife, Eleanor (Valerie Hobson), a married couple living in a nearby cottage. When the two invite the fugitives into their home, Boke and Jim respond by taking the good Samaritans hostage in order to stay out of prison at all costs.
