Danny Kaye plays a buffoon who is mistaken for a prominent visiting bureaucrat (The Inspector General, of course!) in a small European village. You see, the town's officials are skimming tax money and so they do all they can to throw Kaye off their trail, in this riotous musical comedy, based on a story by Gogol.
