Anton Ragatzy (George Sanders) is a beleaguered osteopath. The medical community doesn't believe in him, accusing him of being a fraud. Ragatzy sees an opportunity for redemption when he learns that his colleague, a surgeon named Joseph Sturdee (Frederick Leister), has a crippled daughter, Lalage (Mary Maguire). Ragatzy agrees to cure Lalage, and, over the course of helping her learn how to walk, he and she form a deep relationship and eventually fall in love.
