Guy Stevenson is an accused man fighting for his life. As he pleas to the jury, he repeats the words ‘The Assize of the Dying’, an old Spanish curse invoked by those wrongly convicted. He is found guilty and sentenced to death, but two observers decide that he actually was innocent. As they step out of the courtroon, the curse seems to have started already as the foreman of the jury is run over and killed. Then news comes that Stevenson has died of a heart attack. So the two amateur sleuths try to piece together the puzzle, a feat which will take them dangerously close to the real murderer.
