The Spring is a 1989 independent movie, not available in video, about archaeologists Andy (Dack Rambo) and Matty (Gedde Watanabe), who discover a diary written by a member of Ponce de León's exploration party, which they believe can lead them to the Fountain of Youth. They go to Florida to retrace De León's steps, but the secret of their quest gets out and they are pursued by a millionaire with plans to make money from the spring and a voodoo acolyte hoping to find immortality. Andy's investigations bring him in contact with Dyanne (Shari Shattuck), an artist living near the search area, who seems to be holding back knowledge of the spring. The Spring has few online references and did not break director John Patterson out of television directing, where he found most of his success. His most notable work was 13 episodes he directed for the HBO series The Sopranos. He died in 2005. Dack Rambo was an actor who worked mostly in soap operas. His highest-profile role was as Jack Ewing in the television series Dallas. He died in 1994. Shari Shattuck is best known for her long-running role as Ashley Abbott on the daytime drama The Young and the Restless. Gedde Watanabe is a character actor who typically portrays caricatured Asians with a strong accent. His best-known role was spastic exchange student Long Duk Dong in the 1984 film Sixteen Candles.
