From a movie era that explored—in films like Rebel Without a Cause, Blackboard Jungle and High School Confidential!—what the day‘s media called “juvenile deliquency" comes an uncommon cowboy composite of disaffected youth and Western action. Twenty-one-year-old Russ Tamblyn portrays Tully, trying to make good in Chalmers, Wyoming, but maligned by many because of his outlaw father. After a brawl forces Tully to leave, he falls in with young toughs in nearby Black Crater. There, Tully exhibits a strength of character folks in Chalmers wouldn‘t expect. As the criminal stakes and Tully's need for cash grow, he must choose the path that his life will take and stand tall with the consequences. Gloria Talbott (All That Heaven Allows) plays the love interest who urges Tully to turn away from crime. Perry Lopez (Chinatown) plays the local gang leader. Tamblyn, incidentally, would also go on to star in the aforementioned High School Confidential!
