It all came down to this! In the two-hour season finale, the three finalists advanced to the final stage of the competition. There was live dancing and show-stopping performances at the Grove shopping center and in the DWTS ballroom. The night kicked off with a reunion this season’s couples at the Grove. The three finalists each danced a repeat dance from this season. In the last element of competition, the teams performed a new routine as part of a “24-Hour Fusion Challenge.” They had less than 24 hours to prepare that dance. At the end of the night, the winning team was awarded the coveted Mirrorball trophy. Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess did their fusion dance by combining a spicy Salsa and a top-notch Tango. Julianne said Nick left it all on the dance floor and Bruno added that this team could always be counted on to spice up the night. Carrie Ann was sad that this was Nick’s last dance but happy that he ended it on the highest of notes. Guess that’s why they got another perfect score with three 10s. Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold did their fusion dance to “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay. The team mixed a Rumba and a Tango for their final routine of the season. Bruno was impressed that Alek’s hips were coming alive, but there were a couple of foot faults. Carrie Ann was also impressed by the hip action and Julianne added that Alek’s future is so bright. The judges awarded him three 9s for his final dance of the season. Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough did their fusion dance to “All the Way” by Timeflies mixing the Cha Cha and the Argentine Tango. Carrie Ann couldn’t think of a better way to end Season 21. Julianne added that Bindi has been pure joy from Day 1. Bruno felt it was another triumph for Bindi the Great. Perfect 10s all around from the judges to go along with a standing ovation from the ballroom crowd. At the end of the night, and the end of a fantastic season, Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough were named champions of Season 21 and winners of the coveted Mirrorball Trophy!
