Deep Shit

When bored housewife Veerle and rookie journalist Sara find themselves in an undignified squabble in the bargain booze section of their local supermarket, it dawns on them that their lives are in a rut. Over cheap wine on a park bench in the middle of the afternoon, they resolve to refocus their pent-up anger and take back control of their destinies. But things start to unravel when they happen upon a discarded pistol and continue with their errands. The sales assistant in a pet shop, panicked by their aggressive attitude and the glint of the gun, alerts the police to an attempted armed robbery. Next they pause at a petrol station – just as petty criminal Tarik is bungling his own hold-up. After showing him how it’s done, they flee with his meagre loot, shelter him in Veerle’s holiday caravan, hide the ‘getaway car’ in some bushes and report it stolen. As their escapade takes one disastrous turn after another, husbands Martijn and Bert are alarmed by Veerle and Sara’s desperate attempts to keep up appearances at home, and form their own pact to find out what’s going on. A frantic criminal caper that skews every convention of settled family life, and keeps viewers curled up in laughter as each hilarious twist unfurls.
